About David

David grew up on the island of Jersey, a British Crown dependency with a view of the French coast on a clear day. He lives for variety, challenge and experience: he has captained his island’s rugby side at U18 level, boxed competitively at the British University championships and within South Africa, been awarded an Army scholarship for Sandhurst military officer training, solo sky dived, trekked over night with the Big Five in the Kruger park, and completed a special form of torture otherwise known as a ten day silent meditation retreat!

David has worked with people from all walks of life in various industries. He has grilled meat at Burger King, washed dishes in a Mexican restaurant, swiped bar codes at a chemist, stacked shelves at a supermarket, spent days brick-laying on building sites, managed a cocktail bar and sold utility contracts door to door. These varied, practical experiences have taught him the fundamental truth that opportunities to generate meaning and gain knowledge can be found in whatever work we undertake – regardless of the superficial situation we find ourselves in. We get to choose our frame: how we interpret life is the one thing constantly within our control.

He began his investment career in London on Fidelity’s Graduate programme, and has since worked for PwC in offshore Trust; served private clients as a Discretionary Wealth Manager in Mayfair for HSBC; built an Institutional Investment desk in Jersey; hired, coached and managed a national Investment Distribution team in South Africa; and managed Global Distribution for the asset manager of Africa’s largest financial organisation, Standard Bank. David holds the highest level qualifications in Trust (TEP), Banking (Chartered Banker CBI) and Investments (Chartered Wealth Manager FCSI), and earned a degree from the University of Nottingham and McGill College in Montreal.

David has helped hundreds of clients achieve their financial goals by applying the fundamental laws of wealth. He has worked with multinational corporates in Monaco, successfully presented investment solutions to billionaires in London, and delivered solutions tailor-made for retail clients in rural South Africa. His focus is on achieving client outcomes with the least possible complexity – a strategy that eliminates the unnecessary and prioritises the essential life goals of those he meets.

David firmly believes investment advisors must shoulder their fiduciary responsibility by educating and truly partnering clients during their wealth journey. The consequences of financial choices impact every aspect of an investor’s life, and those they leave behind: failure is not an option. ‘The South African’s Guide to Global Investing’ is designed to provide investors with the insight, confidence and tools required to understand and contribute to the decisions which determine the level of optionality available to us as we progress in life.

David fulfils his passion for developing others directly through his clients, undertaking pro bono work with charities, and as Adjunct Lecturer at Henley Business School. He delivers Investment and Economic Updates for professional audiences, a Communication Skills module at Henley Business School, and ran a six week empowerment programme for female refugees and migrants in South Africa for Scalabrini.
